Kilkenny, Ireland
One of Ireland’s most vibrant towns, Kilkenny is home to a 12th century castle (tours of Kilkenny Castle are available) and some great local beer. KilKenny Ale is only served on tap in a couple of the local bars. Happy hunting! It is worth looking for.

Waterford Castle:     Ireland’s oldest city (celebrated its 1100th anniversary in 2014) is home to a cozy little Castle that resides on its own island. It is a little tricky to find the first time but one ferry ride over and you will not want to leave. They have wonderful hospitality and very pretty grounds that includes a golf course.  This castle is not too big and not too small, but instead is cozy and charming and you'll feel right at home. You can also stay a night in this castle for a more reasonable rate than some of the other castles in Ireland. If you plan to visit, keep in mind there are less than 20 rooms in this castle hotel so book ahead. You can also have dinner there without having to be an overnight guest but do make reservations in advance. They might have a dress code, most likely smart casual. The food is supposed to be great. If you do visit this lovely castle, you can't leave without trying some of their chocolates, the kind they serve as canapes or with the afternoon tea. It's worth flying back to Ireland for more. Best. Chocolate. Ever. Waterford town is also home to medieval museums and the House of Waterford Crystal.
